In 1967, when RIT relocated its campus from downtown Rochester to the suburbs, the City of Rochester experienced a decline in population and lost much of its former vibrancy. However, this trend is now being reversed, thanks to the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). RIT recognizes the benefits of having an urban presence and is developing a bachelor of architecture program to complement the existing Master of Architecture program. Consequently, the Department of Architecture requires additional suitable space, making it an opportune moment to plan for an RIT urban architecture building. |
